Choosing Kitchen Sink Fixtures

When searching for a new kitchen sink, you have many decisions to make. You need to find a kitchen sink, and you need to choose a kitchen sink faucet. There are many different types of kitchen sink fixtures you can choose from. Here you will learn about some of the different types of kitchen sinks that you can select to enhance the beauty of your kitchen.

Stainless Steel

One of the most popular types of kitchen sink fixtures is the stainless steel variety. They are relatively low cost, and are very versatile. In most cases, they are easy to clean and maintain as well. They are prone to scratching, however, so you do need to be careful. One of the latest trends in kitchen sinks is undermount sinks, which fortunately are available in a stainless steel.

Cast Iron

Another type of kitchen sink fixture is the cast iron that is coated with a bright, glossy enamel porcelain finish. Due to the durability of the material, these types of sinks are not prone to scratching and staining. This makes them well suited to the normal wear and tear normal kitchen activities. Unfortunately, this type of sink can be quite a bit more expensive than a stainless steel sink.

Composite

A composite sink is most likely made from granite or quartz that has been crushed together with a resin filler. Although this type of kitchen sink is not true quartz or granite, it does possess many of the same qualities. On the upside, these types do not require as much maintenance as real stone sinks. They are very resistant to scratching and stains, but it is important that you realize that granite is much more durable than quartz, making it more longer-lasting.

Fireclay

Another option you have when choosing kitchen sink fixtures is one that is made from fireclay. The ceramic clay is molded into the shape of the sink and is dried at an extremely high temperature, as much as 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, for a maximum of 40 hours. The dried clay is then coated with porcelain enamel and then re-fired at high temperatures for about 20 hours. This helps to fuse the enamel to the clay, making the sink very durable and longer lasting.
